Shame On You Firefox!
If you're new here, you may want to subscribe to my RSS feed. Thanks for visiting!
Before I start my rant, just let me clarify that I still feel Firefox is far superior to Internet Explorer. It’s still my browser of choice, but I really don’t appreciate not being given the choice to make Firefox my default browser upon installation.
I’ve read that some people feel this is amusing, but I found it disturbing that Firefox takes deliberate measures to hijack your browsing.
After the installation, just try clicking on your IE icon. It opens up FireFox instead of Explorer. NOT NICE, and BAD BUSINESS I say!
Just before the completion of the installation of Firefox 3.0, there’s a message that says something like “Firefox will become your default browser”. There was no choice given at that point! I saw it, but didn’t care much about that. I figured I could just go in and change it.
After searching for the box to tick or untick, I couldn’t find one. I did find a box in Tools/Options/Advanced/General, that says “Always check to see if Firefox is the default browser on startup”. This box by default was unchecked. So obviously this check would never be performed.
The solution is simple enough. Just check that box and restart Firefox. Then change the default browser to IE if that’s what you want. It seems the only way you can use both browsers is to have IE as your default. I actually would prefer Firefox as my default, but then I’m no longer allowed to use Internet Explorer.
I’m still investigating to find a way to have Firefox as default while still being able to access IE. If anyone knows, please let me know!
Okay, I’m done now. I really needed to get that off my chest!
A diasappointing tactic from an otherwise nearly perfect Browser!

Actually Iam still using firefox 2.0, I also love mozilla firefox a lot. Surprisingly Firefox 3.0 got this problem, I hope the developer will consider to modify this option.

It could be a problem with my settings.
Actually, it did that to me with the last version too. Only the installation gave me the choice.
I’ll have to go through my IE settings again. I know it’s not in the Firefox settings.

I’ve never had this problem with my XP box or my Vista Laptop. Running 3.0 on both, but still have IE on both.
